How to remove urine stains from a mattress?Updated 9 months ago

🧽 For "fresh" urine stains

  1. Blot with paper towels to soak up excess urine on the mattress.
  2. Saturate all urine-affected areas of the mattress with urineFREE. Ensure the surface is wet enough to allow urineFREE to soak deeply into affected areas.
  3. Allow to air dry — this can take up to 2-3 weeks. The biological removal of the urine deposits takes place during this drying time.
  4. When dry, apply a small amount of water to the area and blot it up with a paper towel to remove any remaining residue.

🔦 For old urine stains

  1. Use our urine detector to be sure to locate all the stains on the mattress.
  2. Saturate all stained areas with urineFREE. Ensure the surface is wet enough to allow urineFREE to soak deeply into affected areas on the mattress. You may see the stain become darker or the smell become stronger. This is common: it is the stain bleeding to the surface for removal.
  3. Allow to air dry for 2-3 weeks. The biological removal of the urine deposits takes place during this drying time. This may be extended by the application of a non-porous cover such as plastic film for more effective results.
  4. When dry, apply a small amount of water to the area and blot it up with a paper towel to remove the remaining residue.
  5. Repeat entire process if necessary for particularly stubborn urine stains.

Notes

Use a lot of product to saturate the mattress: in order to ensure that the urine remover follows the path of the urine in the mattress removes the urine and dries properly, complete saturation of the urine affected area and a two-to three-week drying period is recommended.

⚠️ Previous products: never use cleaners, chemicals or deodorisers to remove urine. These products tend to coat or encapsulate the uric acid crystals (the source of the odours) and make it difficult for urineFREE to penetrate. If you have used these products, try to remove as much of the products as possible with water and a clean cloth. Blot and allow to dry and then apply urineFREE.

🔥 Burn marks: old urine stains that have not been removed or not removed correctly will have greater exposure to the urine and the acidity of the uric acid crystals. Unfortunately in some mattresses, especially wool blends, the uric acid crystals can cause burn marks that look like a stain but have actually discoloured the fabric. This is irreversible. urineFREE will remove the urine and urine smell but it can not remove burn marks. This is why we encourage removing urine as soon as possible for all surfaces.

💦 Prevent future urine (and other) stains from ruining your mattress

We recommend using a non-toxic fabric protector like protectME to stain proof all your fabrics, upholstery, carpets and rugs around the house, including mattresses. protectME is a very efficient and safe product, unlike other “mainstream” fabric protectors which are formulated with toxic chemicals.
